Friday 23rd December 2000: Patient chairs

When our extension was completed the fire officer came to carry out a safety check and condemned most of the seating in the main waiting area. This area is the responsibility of our landlords (Premier Health) and it has taken months of wrangling to get the seating replaced. We are assured that the order has now been placed and the seating should arrive shortly.
The chairs in our subwaiting areas outside both the doctors rooms and the nurses rooms are our responsibility and were upgraded months ago. We are currently planning to further increase the provision in those areas and also upgrade the seating inside the consulting rooms.

Wednesday 11th October 2000: Consequences of staff illness.
The subwaiting area will have to be closed periodically when we do not have enough staff to cover it. Signs on the door to our corridor and on the subwaiting door will advise you to report to the main reception desk and sit in the main waiting area until called.
Saturday 7th October 2000: Consequences of staff illness.
A combination of staff on sick leave after operations and some members about to undergo operations will leave our workforce severely depleted later this month. Our staff have to wait the same as everyone else so they are naturally reluctant to put off their hospital admission as they fear slipping ot the bottom of the list.
This situation is going to be difficult to handle as repeated paring of staff funding by Governments has left us already doing more than a full complement of staff should be expected to do.
We will maintain the best service possible under the circumstances but some changes will be necessary in the way we work. As always, we will keep you informed via this website and also via our Infotext system in subwaiting.
Tuesday 19th September 2000: Influenza Immunisation.
Information about influenza and details of this years clinics is now available. The clinics start on Monday 2nd October. Click here
Tuesday 8th August 2000: Appointments
As promised on 22nd June, we have standardised our computer shutdown period during which appointments cannot be made or changed. We have managed to limit the shutdown to one period rather than the 2 we expected. This is 12.30pm to 1pm. The system will still be backed up 3 times each day; 2 being out of office hours..
Tuesday 25th July 2000: NHS in the 21st century
The government wants the NHS to change. The reasons why and the practice response are displayed on the website (Click here) From there, there is a link to the page with details of the planned Minster practice changes.
Thursday 22nd June 2000: Practice Computer
As some of you know we have had a major problem with our computer system last week and early this week. Patient information is kept on 3 hard discs in 2 servers. The engineer called to replace 1 of the 3 drives but the new drive was incompatible and the system had to be rebuilt. No data was lost from any of the discs but rebuilding took longer than anticipated and required a specialist engineer causing further delay. We apologise for any inconvenience that was caused particularly to the handling of repeat prescriptions. The system will be off for longer during the period between 12 and 1pm and also after 6pm as we have been advised to wait longer now for 2 of the discs to synchronise as mirrored copies. Unfortunately, appointments cannot be booked during these periods. Once we are certain how long the mirroring is likely to take, we will try and standardise the timing so that we can let you know when the system will be off.
Thursday 8th June 2000: Patient Participation Group
The Convenor Mr. Ted Ashley is currently seeking volunteers for this independent group. Click Here for more details.
Monday 5th June 2000: Services for the disabled
A review of facilities for the disabled has demonstrated that services for the hearing impaired are inadequate. We have sought the assistance of the Royal National Institute for the deaf and will shortly run a trial of hearing loops. If successful, the loops will be installed in all consulting rooms.
Friday 2nd June 2000: Forward booking of appointments
Appointment slots are opened 4 weeks ahead as this is the period over which the appointment information is automatically saved every 30 minutes. If the computer crashes, this information can be reinstated from the backup taken in the half hour before the crash.
For routine review and follow up of ongoing conditions, please book well in advance as this reduces the pressure on the system and helps those needing to be seen with newly emerging problems.
