Optometrists are professionals trained to provide primary eye care and improve vision with glasses, contact lenses etc. This is the proper term for the opticians that test your eyes.
Some optometrists in South Staffordshire support the Hospital Eye Service in the care of diabetic eyes avoiding the blindness that can be caused by diabetes and also in the care of patients with cataracts prior to extraction.
In the case of cataracts, the volunteers monitor the situation and refer directly in to the Hospital Eye Service when the cataract is ready to be dealt with. This follow up frees the hospital clinics to see more patients with other eye conditions.
When booking your appointment, ask for the optometrist by name as not all optometrists in one establishment take part in the scheme. Only Lichfield optometrists are listed here but the scheme covers South Staffordshire. Telephone
