Many older people heat just one room in winter to keep fuel bills down but doing so risks hypothermia. However, it is possible to pay a fixed weekly amount to cover gas & electricity no matter how much energy is used. This means all rooms can be heated at a fixed cost as well as enbling lighting to be improved without incurring extra energy costs. Please draw this scheme to any older person that may benefit. This is a genuine scheme without a catch. It is run by TXU, a large UK energy company, and is called Staywarm. Anyone over 60 can take advantage with the weekly payment based on the number of bedrooms and the number of people living in the home. This is NOT means tested and is not charity. Example rates are £7 per week for 1 person in a 1 bedroomed home and £10.50 for 2 people in a 2 bedroomed home. Various payment methods are available and no change in wiring or pipes is required. Full details are available free on 0800 1694 694 (M-F 8-7, Sat 9-4) or www.staywarm.co.uk
