Garlic and blood pressure

A review of several research studies looking at garlic supplements (600-900mg of dried garlic supplement) and blood pressure found a clinically relevant reduction (about 7mm for systolic and 5mm for diastolic). However, there was little reduction in those people with blood pressure that was already raised before taking the supplement. The active ingredient producing the benefit is also the chemical responsible for the smell raising the possibility that odour free versions may not have any benefit.
