The Lichfield District Safer Community Partnership has a domestic violence forum committed to making the area a safer place to live. The forum aims to both raise awareness of the issue and provide information to those affected.

The Victim Support Drop In Centre is open on Wednesdays 9.30-4.30 at Mansell House 22 Bore Street: the offices of the Lichfield and District Council for Voluntary Service. Telephone 01543 30 1000.

Survival card

The following text is taken from the Don't Live With Domestic Violence survival card published by the Partnership.

"Have you or someone you know ever experienced the following from a boyfriend, husband or partner?

bulletName calling or put downs
bulletEnforced isolation from family or friends
bulletWithholding of money
bulletActual or threatened physical harm
bulletSexual assault

These are examples of domestic abuse. Domestic violence is most often the violent or controlling behaviour used by a male partner to exert power over a wife, girlfriend or lover. However, violence also happens in gay and lesbian relationships and, in a small number of cases, by women against men.

In a crisis situation your safety is vital. None of the following is essential, however if you are planning to leave you may consider taking the following:

bulletIdentification
bulletBirth certificates for you and your children
bulletMoney, bank books, credit cards
bulletKeys - house, car, office
bulletDriver's licence and registration
bulletChange of clothes
bulletPassports, visas, work permits
bulletLease/rental agreement
bulletHouse deed
bulletMortgage payment receipts
bulletInsurance papers
bulletAddress book
bulletChildren's favourite toys or items
bulletToiletries"
